Okay. WOW. I have read one and many stories of toxic and codependent relationships, but I am not sure I have read any like this, where both people are aware of that toxicity and the damage that this codependency causes, to the point where both try to get away from the other, what which ultimately results in even more pain and damage.

Percy and June have known each other since childhood, and from their first meeting, that codependency was born. June had always known how he felt about Percy, but Percy just couldn't recognize what he felt, until it finally ended up being too painful to share June with others. To make everything more difficult, June was not only struggling with the possessiveness he also felt towards Percy, but with his mental health, drowning everything he felt in alcohol, drugs and sex.

It all ended up resulting in an incredible roller coaster of emotions that exploded when June reached his breaking point and ended up at the Black Diamond, receiving the therapeutic help he had needed for years.

It is a story that has all the ingredients: angst, drama, jealousy, cheating (not between the two MCs), possessiveness, but mostly, the deep love they feel for each other and that when the time comes it just flows, the acceptance that no matter how destructive that codependency is, they still end up embracing it, trying to turn it into something positive for them. It is what in the end gives them the strength to fight for what they feel, knowing that they have each other to support them when the obstacles arise.

It is also a good representation of how recognizing menthal issues and treating them results in a better and healthier life, for the person who suffers from them and for those around them. I really liked that part.

A hard story to read, so please be aware of the TW, but one that ends up being endearing, mostly because its MCs are fragile and you want to just hug them strongly and tell them that everything is going to be ok (and shake them every time they miscommunicate with each other), but they are also incredibly strong to withstand everything that comes their way.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
