Call of the Bone Ships: Book 2 of the Tide Child Trilogy by RJ Barker
5.0
I love that little buzz you get when you are reading the next book in a series and you can already tell it's going to surpass the first just from the first few chapters
As someone who really enjoys different environment's and settings, this book managed to hold my attention throughout even though majority of the story is told out at sea. The character development is just that good that I was so invested in their voyages, I wanted to protect them all at all costs which consequently aided some tense moments
The writing just flows from start to finish with such an interesting take on an atmospheric and expansive fantasy setting (and again, even when they're just out at sea). It's well paced with a good balance of everything you want from a story from action to character dialogues to progression of the story, which is improved upon in comparison to book 1
The fantastical elements I find to be really exciting and unique, from the ships and how they operate to the sea dragons (I did wish there were more of) and I enjoyed learning more about the gullaime as these are some hard to not love creatures.
The only aspect I thought was lacking was the presence of the villain but I'm holding off on this thought until the final book as I have feeling there is some motive behind this. I can't wait for the next wave in The Tide Child Trilogy.
