Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

"She saw herself and not herself -she didn't know what she was, except that she was free."

This was so so good! I loved the elements of folklore and Persian culture, they were so different from any other fantasy I've read before.

Soraya was such a great character that went through so many phases in the story, there was even a time where I kinda wanted her to become the villain, not gonna lie, but she had such an amazing character development while she discovered who she was and what she truly wanted for her life after being isolated for so long. She made mistakes and had regrets, but in the end she found herself free and was so emotional to see her like that.

Also loved the sapphic love interest which is not super common in fantasy, so I highly recommend for all my sapphic girlies out there! My only critique was that it left me wanting more development for their relationship, but maybe that's the romance reader in me lmao.
