Raven: Part One by Virginia Kelly, Piper Scott
5.0
It has been quite some time since I finished Peregrine, but my love for this series has not diminished one bit. And in actuality reading Raven Pt 1 has awoken the desire to read the entire series again so maybe I can anticipate what will happen in Raven Pt 2.
My heart wept for Sorin and the abuse he suffered prior to encountering Bertram. Bertram is dispatched to end Sorin’s life after he is accused of murdering an Amethyst dragon, and while there he takes custody of Sorin’s newly laid clutch of eggs. He is unable to kill Sorin and he follows him back to Bertram’s keep.
Every time I read Bertram’s POV in the beginning and he doubted Sorin I wanted to shake him or bash him into the wall. But I had to remind myself that this was in the past before all the recently learned information about dragons and their human counterparts. That didn’t help me so much with Grimbold’s interactions, I may never forgive that man.
There are some sweet moments in this book, Sorin and Bertram truly fall in love and Sorin learns he can trust one dragon (besides his children), but there are hard decisions and sacrifices made as well and a lot of time spent without each other. But throughout all this there is love.
There is still the threat of Sorin’s deteriorating mental status that Bertram tirelessly continues to try and find information and help for.
I am excited to read the final installment, I have some theories as to how it will progress and what causes the issues. The end of book 1 catches us up to the beginning of Clutch.
I received an advanced copy from GRR in exchange for my honest review.
