The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
How do I put into words how much I love Leigh Bardugo?
How do I put into words how wonderful this book is?
Bardugo weaves a beautiful, but tragic tale of a scullion maid with magic who becomes a pawn for men eager to gain the king's favour. With the help of an immortal, she trains to compete in a competition in hopes of winning a place at the King's side.
Set during the Spanish inquisition, Luzia and her companions fight the fine line between performing miracles, or heresey.
Yes, it took me a while to get into this one, but once I did, I was in love. In love with how different this is from everything I've been reading lately. In love with how I had no clue where this book would go. In love that it's a standalone and I don't have to wait forever for a sequel.
I simply cannot wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this book, give it a hug, and place it lovingly on my bookshelf.
Thank you to the publisher for providing a free copy of this book!
