Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood

2.5 maybe if i read this earlier in my life i would have liked it more? after two thirds into the book i wanted to stop but pushed ahead. this style was not my favorite? i feel the relationships explored did not go deeper than some kind of comic depiction of a selfish and conservative weirdo? i feel there was a lot to interrogate with such a dynamic family and space but often felt bored and unimpressed with the language. the words after a while were so forgetful that it felt like the letters evaporated in the air before i could retain anything.
i think there’s a lot of liberal inclinations to depict conservatism and backwards thinking as amusing and silly but that felt shallow. these are the author’s parents, you could see their ignorance and strange habits from a distance that i felt was manufactured. there’s some moments of connection but ultimately i found it forgetful and repetitive.
