Tomboy: A Jane Benjamin Novel by Shelley Blanton-Stroud
adventurous
emotional
mysterious
fast-paced
4.5
Jane is such a badass, empowering woman. Especially for the time period. She is always trying her best and is always trying to do what she thinks will get her further in her career.
Tommie and Jane’s friendship was such a wonderful one. Tommie seemed to really need a friend- just like Jane- and they both just clicked together for me. Frank was definitely an amazing character and I love every detail we learn about him.
The things Jane is able to uncover, learn and think about were PHENOMENAL. She lets her “reporter brain” lead the way and never stops until she gets the information she wants. She’s like a freaking spy.
The novel takes place in 1939- and the language and speech definitely showed that! It wasn’t all proper speech and such- it definitely made the novel easier to fall into.
For anyone looking for a great read- with a female protagonist that never gives up on her dreams- no matter what- look no further!
