The Last White Man by Mohsin Hamid
5.0
In reading of Anders' confusion over his new dark looks/identity I had a flashback to Virginia Woolf's Orlando and Orlando waking to find himself a woman and how disorienting it was. I had expected race to be a bigger part of the plot; it was more the backdrop as relationships were explored. death was pondered, and characters developed.
I don't usually like fiction that uses omniscient third person and action always seems removed; but in this short novel it worked. I don't usually like the "ten years later" endings, but again, Hamid made it work.
I'll definitely read more by this author.
