The Havoc of Choice by Wanjiru Koinange

5.0

How much I enjoyed this book is an understatement. Wanjiru Koinange is the breath of fresh air writing I didn’t know I needed. Putting this book down was an impossible task.

I wouldn’t know it yet, but the title of the book emulates exactly that, Havoc of Choice. She has managed to show each of the characters’ experiences beautifully. Encapsulating what the post election situation was for Kenya in the 2007 election was no easy undertaking but she did it justice.

Reading it, I thoroughly enjoyed the familiarity of the dialect and how playful she was in showing how we communicate. I found myself thinking, ‘this is Kenya’ and going through the motions of surprise, sadness, joy at the events therein.

I was pleasantly surprised by the author and genuinely can’t wait to see what more she has in store.
