This book was probably the most boring thing I’ve read (or in this case, listened to) this year.

There was nothing heinously wrong with the book, so I don’t want to take it down to a full one star rating, but there were very few interesting things going on here.

The beginning of the book had me intrigued. I wanted it to continue down this sort of mystery/thriller vibe that the author had going. Sadly, we deviated from the mystery of it all quickly. And the answer wasn’t satisfying.
Why did we not come back to the crows??

I liked the very end of the book on a three-star level.
At least most of the “real world” things came back and had relevance - the phone calls, the ski masks, etc.

For being such a character focused novel, you’d expect the two main (and only human) characters to be well developed and at least get you, the reader, invested in one of them, right? That’s what I hoped too, but they’re pretty damn flat despite how much (unrelated) backstory we get. Wish I cared at all that Jake dies.

In summary, there were some nice moments, but overall this was a tedious and bland read.
