Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart

5.0

God.. I was so prepared to come in here mad as fuck I was already planning my goodreads angry rant but no... those last five words saved everything. COME, IT SAID. COME AWAY. :(
reading this became rlly difficult during /that/ part, like even when I saw the terrible shit coming it still made me sick to my stomach reading it... however the men dying and hamish being jailed for their deaths is so fucking excellent karma is real thank you douglas stuart
there was something so devastating about the line "he found he could not hug her back" the progression of mungos character felt so gradual that i didn't notice it properly until that moment, and when i did i had to put the book down because id completely forgotten how different he was at the beginning. he changed so much by the end of the book he was like a completely different person...
hope mo maw dies and i hope james and mungo live happily together in their caravan for the rest of their lives with no one bothering them. i am heartbroken. need a sequel where they're ok
