Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
5.0
Audiobook/narration: 4.5/5
Book content: 5/5 (would give 100/5 if I could)
I was not ready for the full waves of emotion this book gave me. This is definitely not some run-of-the-mill rom com. Nope, this had me truly cackling and then 50 pages later I would be tearing up. The sheer amount of feeling this book gave me puts it in god-tier status for me - no notes accepted.
What ultimately caused me to break down and sob into my shirt was in the epilogue though...and it was only 3 words. When Justin said, I lost it. There's just SO much depth and love that went into this story that it was heartbreaking having to leave the characters. I'm also very impressed with how the heavy topics were handled, and so happy to see mental health representation here too.
And now for the audiobook/narration side. Both narrators were exceptional, holy cow. The emotion that was conveyed in their performances is what really made this book top-notch for me I think. I was SO STOKED in the first chapter because I truly thought this was about to be a duet-style narration. Well it isn't - it's this weird pseudo-duet / dual narration mix. It's only duet-style when they're texting each other (?!?!?!), and otherwise is standard dual narration. This irked me more than it should, I'll be honest. But my god, I would have given just about anything to have Emma and Justin truly conversing in this audiobook! That's the only reason why I gave 4.5 stars for narration. Otherwise, it would have been immaculate.
Basically, please read this so we can swoon together. =)
