A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown
5.0
Absolutely blown away. It's pretty rare I get to within 50 pages of the end of a book with no idea how it will be wrapped up.
Others have given plot summaries so I just want to note that I was delighted to see such a realistic and sensitive exploration of young attraction and love; I thought the exploration of oppression and culture was fascinating.
If there is one glitch--and it's a tiny one--there is a missing minor character. All but of the champions has been pre selected or groomed. So that when Malik is chosen presumably he's taken someone's expected place? I'd really have expected that someone/someones to be a bit resentfully present.
I've pre-ordered the sequel. I don't do that very often.
