I feel like everyone I've ever heard talk about this book talks about how AMAZING and INCREDIBLE it is. Many say "6 stars!" What no one seems to warn you of is the slow start. It's still good throughout the beginning, but the whole basically "introduction of characters, foundation for the plot, get ready" really was underwhelming when expecting the most amazing book you've ever read. I wasn't on the edge of my seat until part 5 out of 6.

Again, don't think this means the beginning is boring! It isn't, but if you're going into this because of the hype, you may find the beginning disappointing. I also realized that I was expecting something with the same FEEL as Shadow and Bone, which this has a different feel to it.

Overall, I did love this book. However, something in me won't let me give it 5 stars. There was something not quite up to par, but I can't put my finger on it...
