this is quite possibly the WORST book I have ever read. It is a RED FLAG if you like this book.
I think OASIS is what Mark Zuckerberg wants Meta to be, which is such a huge yikes … maybe if you think Zuckerberg is a Cool Guy™️ that you look up to you might like this steaming pile of shit.
I actually was intrigued by the first chapter (until Wade introduced himself, lol) — it had the potential to talk about climate change and self-isolation and other ideas about virtual reality and then the book just … didn’t do that and made a whole mess of it. Deus ex machina after deus ex machina my god.
Anyone who writes and performs (vile) spoken word poetry entitled ‘Nerd Porn Auteur’ (if you want to absolutely gag, look it up) cannot possibly write a book worth reading, especially with creepy STALKING DISGUISED AS LOVE. So clearly written by an incel-type white man geek who has never interacted with a human woman. Bad vibes!!
Also, all the pointless name dropping of 80s things! They weren’t even references, because they weren’t incorporated at all, just listed like a goddamn Wikipedia article. Infuriating.
Who is this book even for? How is it so beloved? It feels like clunky YA but is marketed at adults looking for 80s nostalgia porn (I find no other excuse for this). I think people who don’t read might like this? IDK this book is so so obnoxious and terribly written and predictable that I have to assume that only non-readers might like this because they can somehow put up with the excessive pandering being shoved down their throats.
It’s not plot or character driven. It’s info dump driven.
