The Midnight Girls by Alicia Jasinska

3.0

3.5 - A villian x villian romance about two rival shape-shifting monster girls who steal hearts from princes and bring them back to the respective witches they serve for them to eat.

The plot was fun and fast-paced, the writing was easy to read, and both of the main characters were likable. My biggest gripe is this book is sorely lacking in world-building, particularly it’s magic system. It felt inconsistent, contradictory and was noticeable because of how frequently magic is used in the book, both by the mcs and the side characters. The magic felt like an afterthought rather than it actually feeling grounded in the story. I think that is what prevented me from feeling fully immersed into the story. Still a decent read, though.
