Wow this book was good. I was way more emotionally invested in this compared to the first one because I was already familiar with the characters. Fonda Lee clearly knew this and used it against me, because holy fuck I almost had a heart attack more than once (the ending of this book had me scared shitless). My favourite characters are Hilo, Wen, Shae and Anden (and Hilo and Wen are like the ultimate couple and I would do anything to be part of that couple). The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because there is one pov (Bero’s) that pisses me off more than anything. I hate Bero. I hate the side characters in his pov. I hate his plot line. I’m begging you Fonda Lee, make his chapters more bearable or let me be free of him. I’m so glad that I decided to continue with this series, and I can’t wait to start the third and final book, ‘Jade legacy’, though I’m having a minor fantasy break and reading a romcom because I needed something calmer.
