“She hated how every woman either had to bend to their will or suffer for life. She despised this world. And yet, it was the only semblance of a home she'd ever known. She wondered sometimes why she hadn't run away. She had the money, she had the skills, she had it all. And she'd stayed for some reason she couldn't find anymore.” ~ Morana Vitalio

I’m sad we don’t get Tristan‘s perspective. Some scenes would have been great to see from his point of view. I liked this book fine. It wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read, but it intrigued me enough to be interested in the second book. I want to see more of Tristan and Morana, so I’m happy theirs is a duet. I appreciate that the story follows their love story while also unraveling a mystery.
I would have liked to see Morana interact more with her dad, but the difference between him and Tristan has become very clear, so it’s not necessary for the story. I would have skipped the bathroom scene; it came too early and didn’t make sense to me at that point in the story.
