Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge

5.0

I didn’t find this book divisive, in fact I found it to be the complete opposite.

As a white person I wasn’t put off by the title, I was compelled to read it. (Disclaimer...I had already read Remi’s blog post and her Long Read in the Guardian so my reaction to the title was more about them and not the book!)

There is a lot for me to take away from this, there were some points in this where I thought oh ok, maybe I do that, or god I didn’t know / realise that.

I don’t feel like Remi is pushing white people away or ‘not including us in the conversation’ as I’ve seen some people say. I feel like it was an opportunity for me to essentially listen and to learn. Although this is not what the book was written for, it is an opportunity for us to see racism from a black woman’s perspective. I fail to understand why that is a bad thing?

If you truly consider yourself anti-racist then you should read this book.
