The Squad by Christina Soontornvat
4.0
The Squad: a Graphic Novel (The Tryout #2) by Christina Soontornvat and Joanna Cacao [Scholastic Canada #gifted]
Christina and her friends are back in this second graphic novel in the Tryout graphic novel memoir series. Christina, Megan, and Leanne were disappointed after going through cheerleading tryouts last year but they feel that their chances are better this year. As Christina goes through the stress of eighth grade, navigating her different groups of friends, and the failing marriage of her parents, she has to also figure out how to still follow her dreams and remain true to herself.
I really enjoyed this story as we continued to follow Christina's story with her friends. It explored a lot of different themes and issues that are still relevant to today's youth. This is a great companion graphic novel to The Tryout and fans of the first book should definitely read The Squad.
