A Broken Blade by Melissa Blair

3.5

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I’m gunna start off by saying that this is a pretty basic booktok book. There are so many tropes (enemies to lovers, assassin fmc who is the best of all the other assassins, one bed, who did this to you etc.) so if that’s not your thing then maybe don’t read this book. That being said, it’s not really my thing yet I still enjoyed this book.

None of the characters stand out that much imo, and pretty much every side character is just a stereotype of a certain trait. That being said, it was an enjoyable reading experience (once I got past the first 100ish pages) and though the plot line is pretty simple, it kept me engaged.

I’m not really one for romantasy (especially straight enemies to lovers) but I liked the romance in this, and I really appreciated that the fmc wasn’t a teenager but was old enough that I didn’t need to question the age of her love interest.

I did get a little confused at the different species and the differences between them (mortal, halfling, light fae, dark fae and elf) and I think the author should have explained this more clearly, or put a glossary somewhere outlining the differences.

Overall, this was pretty simple but I enjoyed it and would recommend, and I will be continuing with the series.
