This is my first time reading a Christine Feehan book and it might be my last. The book was very slow, extremely repetitive and seemed to have superfluous backstories on every character. I learned after reading this book that it’s the first in a series, but it seems like some of the details and depth could have waited for the next book. Also, although the character backstories were extremely lengthy, they weren’t very diverse and all had the same trauma/triumph background which felt flat.
The story itself would have been an interesting concept if it was told more succinct. It feels like an opportunity was lost because the author wanted to lay detailed ground work for another book. And to top it off, I guessed the killer very early on. Again, because the focus seemed to be more on building backstories than the actual “mystery”. Needless to say, I’m disappointed and probably won’t pick up anything from this author again.
