Horse by Geraldine Brooks

5.0

My only regret is that I did not listen to this before it was published (I had the audio from Libro.fm as an advanced listening copy) so I could have raved about it before publication.
One of the best books I have read this year. So much information about horses, horse racing, art, the Smithsonian, the horrors of slavery and the horrors of racial profiling that continue to this day. Brooks manages to tell a story of the greatest racehorse ever known and at the same time give us historical info about racing and the lives of breeders and trainers before and after the civil war. She mixes science and life and love and art into a story that will tear at your heartstrings and that you will not soon forget.
