Urban fantasy is a genre I occasionally but this one hooked me by chapter 3 and never stopped being good.

Not sure why or how it ended up on my tbr pile ( which I am trying to work on, and no new series which didn't work )

Alex is considered a witch and works as a P.I. and a consultant for the police department. She is called to raise shades ( souls) to find out how they were murder. Shades don't attack until one does and leaves a mark on her. She also is being hunted by fae who want her dead. Her father is anti magic and has disowned her from the family. She teams up with Falin who is a detective until he isn't can't say much more, no spoilers here

This was a well paced, well developed book and can't wait to read about her next adventures.
