Better Than People by Roan Parrish
5.0
Simon was perfect. I loved him as a MC, his struggles were so real and relatable. His social anxiety was hard to read, but he quickly became one of my all time favorite MCs.
The romance was so cute, I loved Simon and Jack together. But also, the struggles of being in a relationship as a person with a mental illness (conversations that could have been easily applied to a neurodivergent or disabled person) were perfectly written.
Another thing that impressed me of the book was how much the side characters felt like real people.
Simon's grandmother and her grief broke my heart more than once in the book. Still, I feel like I need to thank the author for writing the experience of an elderly person feeling broken after having lost their spouse. It was harrowing, but I'm grateful of having read it.
Charlie, Jack's older brother, was such a complex characters from the few scenes he had. I can't wait to read his book.
