Crikey, this book was BAD. I hate read it after a certain point. I think I just had to see how the books ended  because I put the time in to read the first two. The author literally left nothing for the reader to figure out. Everything was over explained and over-foreshadowed so NOTHING took you by surprise. And the fact that the first 2/3’s of the book turned out to be pointless was actually insane.  And of course we had yet another young-woman-coming-of-age-loses-all-her-powers-for-a-man-and-[his]-kingdom. Kiva barely could stand i
on her own, she ALWAYS had someone rescuing her. I can’t even believe she was a main character! She was so whiny, not clever, not smart, not able to wield a weapon even with training, self-pitying and horribly boring. She was so pointless to the plot & one of the most uninteresting characters. On top of that she barely grew as a character. And don’t even get me started on Jaren/their relationship. Kiva had more chemistry with Caldon the entire time. And how is Jaren going to say “oh no I’m in love with you” when there is 2 hours left in the book (?!?!) out of 17 in total?! I hated the romance and Kiva. However, I stayed for Caldon & Cresta. Cresta was the biggest surprise and definitely one of the best characters. She had a bigger and better arc in a single book than Kiva had the entire series. The only reason this wasn’t a one star is  because of those two characters.
