Pride and Prejudice (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) by Jane Austen
3.5
it has certainly been a journey reading this book, and it’s bittersweet to be finishing it. started reading it in december, and around 5/6 months later i have finished. about a half year dedication. goodness.
i found the first 1/3 difficult to get through, and i think that could also be applied to the second third. this could be attributed to the misstep of picking this book up as my first after not reading for ages, but alas. there is one review in the back that i particularly identity with. paraphrased, it says as follows, “not much seems to happen in austen’s book(s), but once you reach the end of each page, you still manage to turn the page to see what happens next. that’s the mark of a good writer.” this was largely my experience while reading the book. it almost seems as if nothing happens but also everything at the same time. the development of everything takes its time. seeing the turn outs of everything at the end and the development of the relationships is quite nice.
i think my favorite characters would have to be jane, mr. bingley, georgiana, both gardiners, mr. bennet, elizabeth herself, and darcy himself. an honorable mention being elizabeth’s friend who i have forgotten the name of, ah whoops.
continuing talking about the characters, i enjoyed all of the personalities and people shown in the book. they were enjoyable characters, even if made to be quite dislikable.
nearing the end now, this was a neat experience and i can’t help but become sentimental because of how much time i’ve spent with this book and the places i’ve brought it. but i’ll stop now don’t worry. i’m unsure whether i’ll be picking it up for a reread in the near future as i’d rather read and experience new things, but i’m sure i’ll reread it at some point in the future. i hope i can get more out of it next time, but who am i to tell.
