The Night Shift by Alex Finlay
5.0
I was so lucky and somehow snagged one of my library’s first copies of this highly anticipated thriller. I really enjoyed Every Last Fear, also by Alex Finley, so was excited to read this copy.
This story was told through several different perspectives. Sometimes I find this distracting, or I get confused, but that was not the case with this book. In 1999, when Blockbuster was still around, a murder takes place. All the young store workers are murdered except one. The suspected killer never saw a day in court as the night he was set free from jail on bail, he disappeared without a trace. Now fifteen years later, and eerily similar murder has taken place at the local ice cream shop. While similar, the lone surviving victim was told “good night sweet girl” prior to blacking out just like the survivor of the blockbuster murder was told. The only problem is this detail was left out of the police report, and hardly anyone knew. Did they get the suspect wrong in the first murder? Has he been free all these years?
This was a fun and exciting quick read. I gave it 4/5 stars and I look forward to what is next from this author.
