Mister Wonderful: A Love Story by Daniel Clowes
4.0
Really, really good. I liked this a lot. It's lighter in tone (even if the narrator is a second-guessing, self-doubting neurotic) than a lot of Clowes' stuff. Ok, but that's the thing about this narrator. I don't think there's anything more neurotic about him than there is about the average bear. I think everyone plays the same mind games, just some are better at hiding it than others. Clowes uses some cool techniques here - many short fantasy sequences, varying illustration styles, and of course, the everpresent internal thought boxes that often crowd out the actual dialogue. Plus, I really dig the illustrations. The color work is spot on and yeah, this gets my favorite GN compliment - it's totally frameable.
