Boy on Ice: The Life and Death of Derek Boogaard by John Branch

5.0

I started this book without knowing anything about the subject matter. Don't know much about hockey, didn't know ANYTHING about Derek Boogaard or how he dies.

And holy hell is it an awful, fascinating, heartbreaking, infuriating story. I cried many times over and wish I could go back in time and protect this giant, lethal, yet gentle child. I'm glad the NHL is doing better-ish now but still seems to be not great. This one's gonna stick with me for awhile.
