Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
This book is amazing because it's just criminals doing criminal things for money. Every character is given a depth that makes them interesting. They have a past that justifies their goals and their need for money. The Ice Court heist was confusing but thrilling and every main character in the book got to know their companions better. It deepened the Crows friendship. A marvelous read, I must say!
My favorite character is Wylan and, honestly, I hate Jan Van Eck- his father- for how he treats him. He literally kicked out his son for being dyslexic. Also, Jan Van Eck confessed that prior to that he beat him and did whatnot to get him to read. Moreover, after kicking him out he sent Wylan letters just to mock him. What kind of father does that? And he has no qualms about Wylan dying! Even Kaz didn't think that a father could be this callous. The pain and fear Wylan must've gone through- and still goes through- because of his father's terrible actions emotionally destroys me. However, Wylan is an amazingly courageous boy for he faced his father while impersonating as Kuwei and held back the hurt and anxiety he felt.
Also, I want to quote a line from the book to show how terrorized Wylan must've been in his father's care:-
"Ready to hear the sound of certain doom."
"You've never heard my father mad."
Adding on, Kaz is incredible because he doesn't care at all about Wylan not being able to read. He knows Wylan has great artistic abilities and his skills are what matter. Best demo guy ever.
Also, Wesper anyone?
