my friend gave me this book years ago, and i just got around to finally reading it. it’s short, so it goes by quickly which i was thankful for. at first, the narrator is quite annoying, the way she kept paying attention to all the things except what she should’ve been paying attention to, like the people around her trying to connect with her and even her own self. but i guess that’s kind of the point and much of the reason why she’s at this particular place at this point in her life. she doesn’t know or understand herself, even though she’s really observant. once it gets to part 2 and she begins opening up, the story and her get much more interesting and i started to get a clearer picture of her toxic family life and why she copes the way that she does. she becomes sympathetic. overall, a decent little story, though the nice and tidy way the story resolves felt too easy and trite. maybe i’m too much of a cynic.
