To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
5.0
‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee is a moving and powerful story that tells of the struggle for justice and morality in a small town in the southern states in the 1930s. The plot is told from the point of view of a girl called Scout Finch. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer defending Thomas Robinson, an African-American man wrongly accused of raping a white woman. Through Scout's eyes, we see a world full of prejudice and cruelty, but also full of human resilience and kindness.
It was shocking to see the N-word so often in this book. But it's important to remember that it was written in the 1960s and was intended as a critique of privileged society.
The novel is about racial injustice, moral dilemmas and the importance of compassion.
It is all to sad that even today some members of society still live by such principles and prejudices.
A book to think deeply and reflect!
4,5/5 ⭐
