The Duke Gets Desperate by Diana Quincy
5.0
I really enjoyed this one - I think its my favorite from Diana Quincy (at least so far - I have one more book of hers on my January TBR).
I loved Raya. She's an "unlikeable heroine", though I don't love the use of that term. She’s smart and business savvy, and in England to visit a cousin she hadn’t met - who happened to be the step-mother of Strick, the Duke of Strickland. Within the first chapter we learn the cousin/step-mother is dead, and she’s left the familial castle of the Duke of Strickland to Raya.
They’re enemies - obviously! Strick is pissed his family home has once again been given away. Raya is determined to make a business and fresh start for herself after being edged out of her family’s factory business in New York.
They’re opposites. An aristocratic Duke and a bluestocking American. They don’t see eye to eye.
And yet THEIR CHEMISTRY.
There were a few times I was like, “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER” but I didn’t hate the miscommunication trope here because it was always resolved fairly simply.
