The Bride Test by Helen Hoang
4.0
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 out of 5 stars
Few romance novels feature characters who are neurodiverse / neuroatypical / on the autism spectrum. Helen Hoang does it expertly - no character is defined by any “condition “. Hoang paints characters as individuals with foibles and a unique experience of the world, never as a person who exemplifies a diagnosis.
I liked this book more The Kiss Quotient, though it’s more serious. There are more lighthearted moments in Kiss Quotient, so if you favor a lighter feel, that may be your preference. For me, the seriousness of this book was never pushed on you, as much as it was just a real part of these characters going through their process of development. I loved Khai so much and felt like I knew him and understood him, which is really impressive of Helen Huang, considering how little I know about the experience of a neurodiverse individual.
Sometimes it drags, but it’s worth continuing on.
It’s steamy - a few open door scenes with a decent amount of description.
