This book wasn’t what I expected. Since this is a spoiler free review, I won’t explain why they had marital problems. Paige and David were married and although they were in love, things were just not right. So after 5 years together and a miscarriage they decided to end their marriage.
The book begins with them meeting almost 5 years after their divorce and they are both with another person. Then the author uses flashbacks to tell their story. This is usually my least favorite literary device because as the reader I have to try to keep up with where the story is, are we in the past, or the present. However, the flashbacks didn’t bother me in this book because they served the purpose of explaining certain events in their lives.
At the beginning of the book I found myself really liking the characters and understanding them and halfway through I became really angry with David. I saw him not as a commanding male character but as a man that allowed things to just happen to him, but he does redeem himself. This book ends on a soft cliffhanger and the second book should be released sometime in July 2024. I’m truly curious if these two can find their way back to each other and fall in love again.
I love second chance books because I enjoy angsty books. Nothing I enjoy more than the tension and turmoil my characters go through. I’m sorry to say this is not an angsty book, but it was very enjoyable and I attribute this to the primary and secondary characters.
