Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
5.0
When people talk about Burial Rites, I only hear incredible things and praises. The truth is, I have had Burial Rites for many years on my long TBR shelf, and I don't know why I was so hesitant to pick it up. Historical fiction, especially based on real stories, is my favorite genre.
I would have loved Burial Rites if I had read during the winter months because of the isolated landscapes of 19th-century Iceland; I would have found myself drawn into the haunting tale of Agnes Magnúsdóttir, a woman whose fate hangs precariously in the balance. The slow-burning tension and dark atmosphere of Burial Rites will likely resonate, and the historical setting will transport you to a distant time and place.
Burial Rites is a hauntingly beautiful and challenging novel that explores the complexities of humanity, the power of storytelling, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
