I absolutely loved this book! I listened to it on audio while reading the book at home- and let me tell you that the audio HITS. The MC's voice (Alex Kydd) sounds like Dave Franco- just WOW. I enjoyed book 1 in this series a lot so I was excited to read about Carter's sister with his BF. But reading this one I just couldn't stop. I loved how awkward Garrett was around Jennie. He couldn't form sentences- it was adorable. He was on the cusp of being terrified of her while also being really attracted to her. I also loved learning more about Jennie and even though she came off as this super confident independent woman she had some major insecurities that Garrett helped her work through. I loved watching their friendship turn into more ever so slowly. I loved how much I laughed out loud in this book AND how much I fanned myself. I felt like there was A TON of spice scenes- which I am not opposed to at all but wanted to mention. And OMG did Garrett have the dirtiest mouth. I loved watching him get Jennie to unravel both in bed and out. I loved and hated the behind the back of Carter. The other characters in these books really help solidify how much I enjoy them. Ultimately though I loved how these two really made each other better even if they didn't think they needed help with them. They made each other have things that maybe they never thought they could. And Garrett was such a romantic and softy it just made him loving this hard exterior woman that much better!
Jennie is at a crossroads in life it seems. She has been offered to explore a job opportunity that she thought she always wanted but now maybe not. While she is trying to decide her brother gets her an apartment in the same building as Garrett Anderson, his teammate and best friend. The guy can't seem to function properly around Jennie and so of course she exploits that when she can. And even though he is super cute, it's not like anything could ever happen between them. But then they keep getting thrown into these situations together and the more time she spends around him the more she realizes how much she enjoys his company AND the way he can't stop looking at her. So they decide to do a friends with benefits situation with rules. Jennie can do this if she follows these rules. But omg does this man make her feel things and experience things she didn't know she could. She finds herself looking forward to hanging out with him in the bedroom yes but also just to talk and unwind about her day or his game. She finds herself opening up to him unlike she has anyone before. She finds herself liking being supported like this as if she matters beyond being Carter Beckett's little sister. She finds herself not only not wanting to follow the rules anymore but also to tell her brother that this is real between them. Because she is in it for the long haul- she just hopes Garrett is on the same page.
Garrett hasn't been a relationship guy really. But now his teammates are starting to find their people and it is making looking for woman when out harder and harder. He finds himself going with what is easy- not a lot of effort. One person he knows he can't have is Jennie Beckett. But OMG is she not beautiful. But Carter would kill him. And because he is so confused about how he feels about her he finds himself unable to speak full sentences or just flirt with her without embarrassing himself. So when Carter moves her into his building he decides he will do the right thing and offer to help her if she needs it. And that's how he finds himself spending more time with her. And the more times he spends with her (minus the embarrassing situations they find themselves in) he finds he really likes talking with her. Making her laugh. Hugging her. He is really trying to be a good friend and fight this feeling but he is also a man. So when Jennie offers up friends with benefits with caveats he of course says yes. He will take this however he can get it. And what he experiences with her is unlike anything he has experienced before. He starts to realize that she has this super hard exterior but the more he is around her he sees she is really just a girl who wants someone to be around and make her feel good. So that's what he does. But he starts to do things behind what a friend would do. He can't help it when she looks at him like that when he does these things. He starts wanting more. He starts wanting forever. But he has to come clean to Carter first. He has to make him understand how he feels because him and Jennie are endgame as far as he is concerned.
The humor and banter in this one reminded me a lot of Meghan Quinn which I was excited about. I loved how Becka handled the heavier topics between these two. I loved how she gave them space to talk through those heavier topics together and how they created safe spaces for each other. I just absolutely LOVED these two. And like I said a ton of spicy scenes which got me all kinds of excited but the connection these two had outside of that was also perfect. They both showed up for each other in the little ways which is really what can help solidify a relationship. I can't recommend this series enough if you haven't started it!! I am SOOOO pumped about our boy Adam's book- that man deserves the WORLD.
