An absolutely brilliant and inspired audio performance awaits listeners of this novel. Fans of Ian Holmes will constantly be tricked into thinking he narrates it. Which isn’t a bad thing. Except if one then goes on to conflate Bilbo Baggins and D-503. Hobbits would definitely not do well with the One State! And neither should any of us. So shocking is this far distant future that the next logical step is to say, “Thank God our society is nowhere near this dystopian utopia!” But then, are some aspects of modern society—as I write this to my “dear readers”, it is 2024–really so far away from the events of this novel?
This is definitely a cautionary tale, and one which will sit with me for a long while.
4.5 out of 5 unfathomable fathomables! But 1/2 a bonus point added to that for featuring a spaceship!
