Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

i’ve known about this book for years and i stayed away bec ppl said it was dark. is it dark? yes. have read worse? absolutely. some of the romantasy books these days make this seem normal.

the reason i finally pick this is i saw review say that the silent prince was copy of this so i wanted to see for myself. there scenes in here that are so similiar i forgot it was a diff book. obvi this is the original.

anyway it was okay. i found the writing to be v clunky. it gave me a headache sometimes. this should’ve absolutely been first person pov and laurent’s pov was needed to humanize him. idk if we’ll get that next book.

the obsession with whiteness is also v jarring and racist. it was like the first chapter or two when someone mention damian’s tan as negative. damien is poc coded but isn’t. it’s v common thing a lot of writers do. idk it just weird. pale skin being mentioned over and over again is weird.

i’m curious so i’ll cont.
