update: I just finished re-reading this book (for the first time since my initial read in 2020!) - and I'm adding onto my thoughts here because it was more beautiful the second time than the first I fear 🫨😮‍💨

I really just hugged the book when I got done with it because it was the most beautiful, raw, and absolutely REAL story I’ve read in a very long time... 🩷 evelyn hugo is THE it girl in hollywood and hearing her finally tell her story after years of hiding the truth behind her marriages and her own identity was the most beautiful thing I've ever read...

what I love about historical fiction the most is the blend between factual history and the characters and their plots, and this one was no exception 🥹 watching evelyn navigate through sexism, racism, and homophobia throughout time was simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring!! I loved seeing how she was unapologetically realistic about the world and about how she was able to fight for all of her accomplishments - there's something about an unlikable character that always gets me to love them even more 🥹😭❤️

and I absolutely fell head over heels with harry and celia, the best supporting characters in history!!

this story is heartbreaking and perfect and there are not enough words to express how much I love this book with my entire heart... I cried just as much the second time reading it too!!! evelyn's story is full of love and joy, but the ending... oh boy, it crushed my heart, mended it together, and then crushed it again (and I wouldn't have it any other way) 💔

please read this book thanks!!!!!
