"Because I love you, Mara. I've loved you since the day you knocked on my front door with that godforsaken cat in your arms. I've loved you since that kiss outside of Old Maple and I've loved you since we both lost the person we loved the most. I loved you then and I love you now. And if you'll have me... I'll love you until my last breath. You're the love of my life, Mara, but you're my best friend
too. I like you as much as I love you. I could have a million lifetimes with you and it still wouldn't be enough. So, take your time."

that quote above was literally SO CUTE. there's just something about the love confession in childhood friends to lovers books where it's like "i've loved you since..." and they describe the moment when they first met that ALWAYS HITS OMG. anyway, i'm giving this book 3 stars because it was very sweet but just not really that good enough or memorable enough for a 4 stars. i liked the story, i just would have liked to see more of ambrose and mara's relationship develop over the years when they were kids, because there aren't many scenes of them actually becoming friends. it's like they meet and then it fast forwards to little while later and you're just supposed to assume that they are best friends but you don't actually get to see that relationship form, which is the most important part of a childhood friends to lovers book in my opinion. even though they are cute together, i would have wanted to see more of their banter and more chemistry.

i did really like cat and mara's friendship though it was honestly so sweet and a really great depiction of female friendship<3. it made me sad though because i have no idea what on earth i would do if i lost my best friend and then my dad too, especially in the way that she did. however, i'm happy that mara and ambrose got their happy ending especially after so much grief and loss. they're very cute together. overall i enjoyed reading the book and would recommended if you're looking for something cute, emotional but not too sad, and short (it's only 341 pages).
