Bitch Planet, Volume 1: Extraordinary Machine by Kelly Sue DeConnick
5.0
I’ve always had trouble reading graphic novels. The flow is never natural and with modern comics it’s hard to tell what order to read the boxes in. Left to right across both pages? Oh now it’s just the left page then the right page? What order do I read the little aside boxes in? Do I read this panel all the way down and then read the regular sized ones? Idk it’s always been a struggle for me but I was willing to decode this one because the message is so powerful! It focuses on intersectional feminism and what it would look like in a dystopian future where any kind of “noncompliance” with men and societies wishes you would be sent to Bitch Planet to be kept away from the populace with your radical ideas. It uses fear of Bitch Planet to keep women complacent with cruelty. It’s super diverse and has a really cool retro vibe to it. I loved every bit of it! It has action and badass women!
