Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling

Loved everything about this book.
the children and adult characters were perfectly crafted to help serve the story of acceptance of self and of others, the setting allowed for the plot to develop with little details about milestones achieved to gain that acceptance and the plot had mysteries pursued and revealed in due time with a beautifully messy conclusion.
