"And my first instinct, the very first time I saw you, was to run away. Because I knew that if we'd start doing this, we would never stop. And that's exactly how it is. There is no universe in which I'm going to let you go. I want to be with you, on you, every second of every day. I think I dream of crazy things. I want you to marry me tomorrow so you can go on my health insurance. I want to lock you in my room for a couple of weeks. I want to buy groceries based on what you like. I want to play it cool, like I'm attracted to you and not obsessed out of my mind, but that's not where I'm at. Not at all. And I need you to keep us in check. I need you to pace us, because wherever it is that we're going, I'm here. I'm already right here."
i'm disappointed by this book :((( i was so excited to read this because i usually EAT UP ali's hazelwood's books they're always so fun to read, but this one, not so much. i didn't love or feel a super strong connection to either of the main characters, to be honest elsie just annoyed me a lot and jack was like obviously sweet and all but he just didn't GIVE like adam and levi did, you know?? their chemistry also wasn't that good, i couldn't FEEL it like i wasn't obsessed as i would be in a really good romance book. also, the plot of this book was much more boring and the smut was also not great, the first kind-of-sex scene put me off so much it actually gave me such an ick because it was so badly written.. literally it was so bad and i did not find it hot AT ALL.
the first part of the book was also just very, very repetitive because all elsie talked about was the fact that she's a people pleaser, except she talks about it as if it's some sort of crippling illness. she literally had no other personality other than being a people pleaser and craving validation from others. i understand that it's based on her past trauma and yes it's sad, but still, it got so annoying because she kept on repeating it OVER AND OVER and didn't talk about anything else.
there were some parts in the book that i did like, some of the banter was cute, and it's not bad it just really didn't do it for me hence the 3 stars.
