DNF at 65%

Hello and welcome to my first DNF of the year my entire life.

If you're looking for a new book with a hockey romance or even just a RH / why choose relationship ❌ DO NOT PICK THIS ONE ❌

Look—I love a good miscommunication trope for the drama but the lack of communication in Pucking Around was just 🚩 NO 🚩

Since Pucking Around mentally tortured me for the past week with its words, I'm just going to jot down the rest of my review with one main point:

RACHEL WAS THE PROBLEM !!!

🔪 Throughout the 71/106 chapters of this book and comparing it to That One Night, Rachel was not the same character.

Her personality and characteristc traits kept changing to fit into different scenes and it felt like she was constantly being rewritten to tick off specific tropes and/or scenes (she also had no frkn development).

🔪 Why was Caleb involved in this so early?

Sure he was an alright character but after Rachel, Jake and Caleb hooked up at the nightclub, they barely spoke about what happened / their feelings / or their current and future dynamic—they all just moved in together 🙃

* S I G H *

🔪 There were multiple multiple multiple MULTIPLE scenes where the topic of their relationship came up (not including Ilmari yet) and Jake was the only one who'd ever expressed what he was feeling and wanted—Rachel just sent them in frkn laps.

The fact that Jake and Caleb had a verbal conversation about Rachel and a point system game (Caleb said no but then wanted to teach Jake a lesson so he basically said yes 👀) highlights how shitty their communication was in regards to their relationship and living circumstances!

RACHEL LITERALLY TALKS ABOUT IT WITH JAKE and rather than address it, or tell them to stop reacting on the insecurities she put there, she asks Jake HOW MANY POINTS HE NEEDS TO BEAT CALEB (?!?!?!?!) 🤬

My blood is honestly boiling rn 😤

🔪 Rachel is also unprofessional AF.
And not in the forbidden work romance type of way for tropes but straight up dodgy. When Rachel was trying to bench Ilmari due to his injury (goal keeper and third love interest) she just came off as childish and whiney, and when they kissed 😶 WHY. That was the wrong moment to do so.

🔪 and lastly, Ilmari.
Honestly if Rachel wasn't in the picture, I would've stayed until the end for an MM / MMM romance because Ilmari and Jake had more chemistry than Rachel did with anyone else, and Jake was just trying to team-bond with Ilmari! But other than that, Ilmari said and gave off hard heterosexual—exclusive couple—boundaries but less than 24 hours later and a group blowie, he was saying yes (?!?!?!?!)

I could go on 🚩🚩🚩 especially in regards to Chapters 53 to 56 🚩🚩🚩 but I'm over it.

I need this book out of my life.

Good night 😓
