These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
4.0
that ending kinda had me worried for a second
first things first the vibes of this book are immaculate, i personally like to stay away from historical fiction its not really my thing. considering this didn't feel like it took place that long ago like i guess the 1920s is a more modern time just without a whole lot of technology, i really enjoyed the atmosphere. i love the way chloe gong wrote shanghai, the clothes and all the debauchery within this novel it truly came alive before my eyes.
one thing i would have to critique would be the characters i didn't feel all that connected to them, i liked them a lot but they weren't completely fleshed out, we know their backgrounds and everything but i wish we got to spend more time with them. juliette's relationship with roma was also something we didn't really get to see and was mainly just talked about in past tense and hoped we could get more flashbacks of their relationship to understand them a bit better.
i gave this a 4 stars for just that reason but i think in the next installment of this series im sure we'll get to know the characters a lot more and i can't wait to check out more books by chloe gong!
