Sociopath: a Memoir by Patric Gagne

2.0

To be fair, a psychology obsessed sociopath makes for an unusually self aware individual. Patric takes us on her lifelong journey of negotiating with her persistent apathy and other sociopathic symptoms. She definitely humanizes/demystifies the condition but I found myself going in and out of interest in her memoir. Her self prescriptions of doing unhinged things (stalking, breaking and entering, temporary grand theft auto) didn’t make sense to me - like, WHY? And she seems to attract men that are equally on the unhinged side. I am glad she found David and he loves her unconditionally and works through her diagnosis with her. I think we all have some degree of persistent apathy, but I feel entirely too much guilt/shame/remorse to be able to know what Patric goes through on a daily basis. Kudos to being an advocate for the condition but I don’t know that I understand what being a sociopath is like any better than before I read this.
