My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor

5.0

I'm finding it difficult to write a review. It's a fascinating book, although the section that describes her stint as a DA is tedious, and there are places where the narrative verges on self-congratulation.

I've given the book 5 stars because it's a unique story. There's no one else who's had these experiences and become a justice of the Supreme Court. Most of the book reads much like a novel: compelling narratives of her life and of those who have been part of her life.

After making it through the section where she was DA, I realized that it coincided with the time that she was married. Don't know if the immersion in legal detail was meant to divert the reader's attention from her marriage, or if it merely reflected the way her career diverted her from her relationship with her husband.

In any case, it's a fascinating story and she appears to be a charming person who has worked very hard to achieve a remarkable position. Very much worth reading.
