Storm Warning: The Origins of the Weather Forecast by Pauline Halford

informative inspiring relaxing medium-paced

5.0

It is a fantastic history of the weather forecast and storm warnings, focusing mostly on the foundational scientist Admiral Robert FitzRoy and his life closely tied to the seas and skies. The journey Halford takes us on through FitzRoy's life is gripping and fascinating, delving deeply into his studies and how the people and governments of the Western world reacted to his creations. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in meteorology and even extend out to anyone interested in the history of a system nearly every person uses every day. My appreciation for something as simple as checking the forecast only multiplied after this read, and learning about the humble beginnings of a country-wide storm warning system was beyond captivating. I cannot express how much I loved reading this and how fantastically it's written. 5/5 stars easily.
